Durwood B. "Woody" Varner Endowed Scholarship

DescriptionPurpose
To provide scholarships to incoming outstanding students in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Criteria for Eligibility
Applicants must be an incoming student entering the College of Arts and Sciences
Applicants must be an incoming freshman
The award is renewable as long as the student maintains full-time student staus and has a GPA of at least 3.0

G.P.A. Requirement

Applicants must have an exceptional high school record and achievements

Jacqueline Scherer Student Fund (The Scherer Scholarship)

DescriptionThe Scherer Scholarship has been established to honor Jacqueline Scherer, longtime colleague, friend, and professor of sociology at Oakland University (1971-1999). The scholarship will be in the amount of $1000, and the department hopes to award a scholarship to a Sociology, Anthropology, Social work, or Criminal Justice major in their junior or senior year.

Eligible students must:
  • Be an Oakland University student in good standing
  • Be a major in Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, or Criminal Justice
  • Have at least junior class standing at the time of application 
  • Have at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrate financial need
All Scherer Scholarship application materials are to be submitted electronically.

To apply, students must prepare a written statement describing their financial need and answering the following questions:
  • Why are you in school?
  • Why did you choose a Sociology/Anthropology/Social Work/Criminal Justice major?
  • What are your plans after graduation?

Lauren Kathryn Roche Endowment for Scholarships in Social Work

DescriptionPurpose
To provide students majoring in social work for tuition, fees, books, room, board, and other costs of attendance.

Criteria for Eligibility
Applicants must be a declare major in social work program
Applicants must be enrolled as an undergraduate student
Preference will be given to applicants who display a commitment to public service

G.P.A. Requirement
Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
