Amos (Francis C.) SBA Scholarship

DescriptionThis scholarship was named after Michigan State Representative Frances C. Amos, an active alumna and ardent supporter of Oakland University. It was established to reward outstanding students who exemplify her commitment to community service and the pursuit of personal and academic excellence.

Applicant must be enrolled in the SBA as a full-time undergraduate student who will have junior or senior status at the time of scholarship distribution, and will have two or more full-time semesters remaining in their first academic degree program. Applicants must maintain a 3.4 GPA in their major field of study and a cumulative 3.4 GPA at OU.

Candidates seeking nomination for the Frances C. Amos SBA Scholarship must submit the following:
  • SBA Scholarship Application
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A list of activities, organizations, community service projects, honors societies, etc. in which you are involved with at Oakland University.

Coats (Gary and Elspeth) SBA Student Involvement Scholarship

Description

This scholarship was established in 2016 by Gary and Elspeth Coats to encourage participation in a variety of university activities. The Coats appreciate the importance of students living on campus, joining campus organizations and participating in extra-curricular activities. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled full-time in the School of Business Administration taking a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Have sophomore standing (minimum 28 credit hours) and must have earned a minimum of 28 credit hours at Oakland University.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

Candidates seeking nomination for the Gary and Elspeth Coats Scholarship must submit the following:

  1. SBA Scholarship Application.
  2. A written statement that addresses how their university activities outside of class have enhanced their college experience, along with a list of university activities including any positions held and the time period actively involved (community/civic involvement, living or working on campus, student organization involvement, intramural sports, special awards and honors, etc.)

Copple (Gale Blank) Economics Endowed Scholarship

Description

This scholarship was established in 2002 by Gale Blank Copple who majored in the discipline of economics. Applications will be evaluated based upon the following eligibility, selection, and renewal criteria. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Major Standing:  Must have declared economics as a major (B.S. in Economics, B.S. in Business Economics or B.A. in Economics).
  2. Junior Status: Must have achieved junior status (i.e., at least 56 credit hours completed) by the end of the Winter semester.
  3. Professional Membership:  Applicants must be members of Oakland University's Women's Economic Society.
  4. Remaining Credits:  Must have a minimum of 30 credits remaining to complete a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.
  5. Full-time Status:  Applicants must maintain full-time status (i.e., enroll in a minimum of 12 credits per semester during Fall and Winter terms).
  6. Minimum GPA:  A minimum GPA of 3.0 overall, with a minimum GPA of 3.3 in economic courses.

Selection of the recipient, based on the above criteria, will be made by the Economics Department Scholarship Committee. The decision of the committee is final.

Candidates seeking nomination for the Gale Blank Copple Economics Endowed Scholarship must submit the following:

  • SBA Scholarship Application
  • A 500-word statement/essay discussing the one economic concept or theory that has most enhanced your understanding of the world in which you live and/or work.

Crestmark Bank Scholarship

DescriptionThe Crestmark Bank Scholarship was established with the School of Business Administration at Oakland University to assist a student pursuing a career in business administration with financial need.  Crestmark Bank demonstrates its philosophy of "We help" by awarding this scholarship to a deserving student for tuition and housing needs.  Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled full-time in the School of Business Administration taking a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Have junior or senior standing (at least 56 credit hours) in the School of Business Administration.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8.
  • Applicants must have applied for financial aid.
Candidates seeking nomination for the Crestmark Bank Scholarship must submit the following:
  1. SBA Scholarship Application
  2. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the School of Business Administration.
  3. Copy of Financial Aid award letter received from OU.
  4. A written statement that addresses the applicant's financial need.

Independent Bank Scholarship

Description
Scholarship Applications will be evaluated based upon the following eligibility, selection, and renewal criteria. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  1. Major Standing:  Must have declared economics as a major (B.S. in Economics, B.S. in Business Economics or B.A. in Economics).
  2. Junior Status: Must have achieved junior status (i.e., at least 56 credit hours completed) by the end of the Winter semester.
  3. Remaining Credits:  Must have a minimum of 30 credits remaining to complete a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.
  4. Full-time Status:  Applicants must maintain full-time status (i.e., enroll in a minimum of 12 credits per semester during Fall and Winter terms).
  5. Pell Grant Eligible:  Must be Pell Grant Eligible.
  6. Residence: Must be from Oakland, Macomb or Lapeer County.

Selection of the recipient, based on the above criteria, will be made by the Economics Department Scholarship Committee. The decision of the committee is final.

Candidates seeking nomination for the Independent Bank Scholarship must submit the following:

  • Proof of Pell grant eligibility.

Katke (Marvin L.) Endowed Scholarship

Description

This scholarship was established in 1999 to assist SBA students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and extra-curricular and/or civic involvement. This is a one-year scholarship for students pursuing a degree in the School of Business Administration. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled full-time in the School of Business Administration taking a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Have junior or senior standing (56 credit hours) in the School of Business Administration and must have taken a minimum of 24 credit hours at Oakland University.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.

Candidates seeking nomination for the Marvin L. Katke Scholarship must submit the following:

  1. SBA Scholarship Application.
  2. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the School of Business Administration and/or an Oakland University Administrator outside the School of Business.
  3. A written statement that addresses why the applicant is deserving of the Katke Scholarship (including academic achievement, community/civic involvement, special awards and honors, etc.).
  4. Other supporting evidence of academic performance and extra-curricular and/or civic involvement.

Meer (Brian) Endowed Scholarship

Description

This scholarship was established in 2007 to assist students pursuing a degree in the School of Business Administration. It is not automatically renewable but may be renewed if the student re-applies and continues to satisfy the eligibility requirements.  Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled at least part-time in the School of Business Administration taking a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester.
  • Have junior standing (56 credit hours) in the School of Business Administration and must have taken a minimum of 24 credit hours at Oakland University.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8.

Candidates seeking nomination for the Brian Meer Endowed Scholarship must submit the following:

  1. SBA Scholarship Application.
  2. A one-page essay describing how receipt of award will assist them, either directly or indirectly in successfully completing their studies and obtaining the undergraduate degree.
  3. A letter of recommendation.

Mittra (Sid and Bani) Economics Merit Scholarship

DescriptionThis scholarship is given to a student pursuing a degree in economics in the School of Business Administration and who has exhibited an outstanding combination of academic performance and extra curricular activities.

Scholarship applications will be evaluated based upon the following eligibility, selection, and renewal criteria. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  1. Major Standing:  Must have declared economics as a major (B.S. in Economics, B.S. in Business Economics or B.A. in Economics).
  2. Junior Status: Must have achieved junior status (i.e., at least 56 credit hours completed) by the end of the Winter semester.
  3. Remaining Credits:  Must have a minimum of 30 credits remaining to complete a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.
  4. Half-time Status:  Applicants must maintain at least half-time status (i.e., enroll in a minimum of 6 credits per semester during Fall and Winter terms).
  5. Minimum GPA:  A minimum GPA of 3.0 overall, with a minimum GPA of 3.3 in economic courses.

Selection of the recipient, based on the above criteria, will be made by the Economics Department Scholarship Committee. The decision of the committee is final. Candidates seeking nomination for the Sid and Bani Mittra Economics Merit Scholarship must submit the following:

  • One-page essay describing how this award will assist you either directly or indirectly in successfully completing your studies and obtaining your undergraduate degree.

SAA (Society of Automotive Analysts) "Thought Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship"

Description

The annual Society of Automotive Analysts (SAA) "Thought Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship" was developed as part of the SAA's commitment to ensuring future automotive thought leaders and talent in the industry. The scholarship will benefit students seeking a career in the automotive industry and aims to support the future leadership that will drive innovation and growth within the automotive industry. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled at least half-time in the School of Business Administration.
  • Have junior or senior standing (56 credit hours) in the School of Business Administration at the end of the Winter 2017 semester and must have taken a minimum of 24 credit hours at Oakland University.
  • Applicants must maintain a 3.2 GPA at OU.
Candidates seeking nomination for the Society of Automotive Analysts Scholarship must submit the following:
  1. SBA Scholarship Application.
  2. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the School of Business Administration.
  3. A 250-word essay related to their interest and career plans in the automotive industry.
  4. Other supporting evidence of academic performance and extra-curricular and/or civic involvement.

SBA Tower Scholarship

Description

This is a one-year scholarship for a student pursuing a degree in the School of Business Administration. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Candidates must be enrolled in the School of Business Administration taking a minimum of 8 credit hours per semester.
  • Candidates must have sophomore standing (28 credit hours) in the School of Business Administration and must have taken a minimum of 12 credit hours at Oakland University.
  • Candidates must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
  • Candidates must have completed MTH 122 with a grade of 2.0 or better.

Candidates seeking nomination for the SBA Tower Scholarship must submit the following:

  • SBA Scholarship Application.
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the School of Business Administration and/or an Oakland University Administrator outside the School of Business.
  • A written statement that addresses why the applicant is deserving of the SBA Tower Scholarship
  • Other supporting evidence of academic performance and extra-curricular and/or civic involvement.

Sharf (Stephan and Rita) Endowed Scholarship

Description

The Stephan and Rita Sharf Endowed Scholarship was established with the School of Business Administration at Oakland University to assist a talented student pursuing a career in business administration. This one-year scholarship is for tuition and books recognizing the plight of many able students who, for the lack of adequate financial resources, are unable to complete the higher education and training necessary to enter the professional field of business.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled full-time in the School of Business Administration taking a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
  • Have junior standing (56 credit hours) in the School of Business Administration and must have taken a minimum of 12 credit hours at Oakland University.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20.

Candidates seeking nomination for the Stephan and Rita Sharf Endowed Scholarship must submit the following:

  • SBA Scholarship Application.
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the School of Business Administration and/or an Oakland University Administrator outside the School of Business.
  • Copy of Financial Aid award letter received from OU.*
  • A written statement that addresses the applicant's financial need.
  • A written statement that addresses why the applicant is deserving of the Stephan and Rita Sharf Endowed Scholarship (including academic achievement, community/civic involvement, special awards and honors, etc.).

*CANDIDATES MUST HAVE APPLIED FOR FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID (IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU APPLY BY FEBRUARY 15TH). THE AWARD LETTER COPY IS REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION.
