SEHS Graduate Tuition Award

Description
Generous donors to the School of Education and Human Services (SEHS) have made several tuition awards for graduate students possible. Students enrolled in a graduate program at SEHS may apply.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • a part or full-time graduate student enrolled in a degree-seeking program in the School of Education and Human Services
  • maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5
  • completed at least one semester at OU
  • describe interest in graduate studies, professional objectives, relevant work experiences, and relevant community service. 
Applicants applying for other awards in the School of Education and Human Services are eligible to apply for the Graduate Tuition Award as well. Students can apply for and be considered for more than one award from the School of Education and Human Services.

SEHS Study Abroad Award

Description

The Study Abroad Award is for students interested in studying abroad through an Oakland University travel abroad program. This award is available to students in the School of Education and Human Services.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • student in the School of Education and Human Services
  • cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • preference is given to those students who have not yet traveled abroad.
Applicants applying for other awards in the School of Education and Human Services are eligible to apply for the Study Abroad Award as well. Students can apply for and be considered for more than one award from the School of Education and Human Services.

Special Ed: Brady Youngblood Scholarship for Special Education

Description

The Brady Youngblood Scholarship for Special Education was established to provide opportunities to expand the learning of students outside the confines of traditional avenues for students studying in the field of Special Education at Oakland University. 


Eligibility requirements: 

  • first semester student studying in one of the degree programs focused on Special Education, or an undergraduate student with a preference of Special Education after taking the undergraduate course in Special Education. 
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • an essay of 500 words or less on a particular topic, such as career goals or the importance of service to the special education population.

Special Ed: Sidney W. Graber Memorial Award

Description
Dr. Sidney W. Graber devoted his career to helping students with learning disabilities and emotional impairments. Prior to coming to Oakland University, he served 32 years as the first director of Children’s Orthogenic Center, which merged with Phoenix Place in 1983 to form Development Centers. Development Centers continues to fulfill its mission to improve the lives of individuals, families and the community by meeting behavioral health, social and vocational needs through a continuum of prevention, treatment and training services.

Graber’s legacy of passionate concern for students with special needs is perpetuated through this award established by his family in 1996 after his passing and established as an endowment in 2004 to benefit students pursuing a career in special education.

Eligibility Requirements:

pursuing a graduate degree in Special Education in the Department of Human Development and Child Studies
minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
preference is given to student who have completed at least 12 hours of graduate coursework
financial need is not required but may be considered

Award Information:
The Sidney W. Graber Memorial Award is for approximately $1,000 and is given to one student each year. Recipients of this award will not be considered for this award in future years.
