Benefits Corner
Benefits Open Enrollment Starts November 5, 2014
2015 Benefits Online Open Enrollment takes place Wednesday, November 5th through Friday, November 21st. Beginning on November 5th, all employees MUST go to the following URL to complete Online Benefits Open Enrollment:
https://sail.oakland.edu/PROD/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=homepage&accessibility=true

The provided URL will direct employees to a non-graphic version of the SAIL system. Using this link should minimize any technical issues and allow employees to successfully navigate and complete the 2015 Benefits Online Open Enrollment. Instructions for the online process are included in the open enrollment packet.

Please note that online enrollment closes at midnight on Friday, November 21, 2014. If you have not completed your enrollment by that time, you will remain in your current benefits at the new 2015 rates, with the exception of the flexible spending accounts and group legal which will be discontinued. You must enroll in the flexible spending and group legal plans every year if you wish to continue these benefits. If you need help with enrolling online you can stop by the Benefits Office in 401 Wilson Hall between 8:00am and 5:00pm through Thursday November 20. There will also be several locations around campus where you can go for assistance with enrollment. A list of times and locations will be included in your complete open enrollment packet. You can also access your Open Enrollment packet on our website. Sign in using your NetID. If you have questions about open enrollment, please call the benefits office at x4207 or stop by to see us in 401 Wilson Hall.

Changes to Flexible Spending (HCRA) Accounts for 2015
The IRS just announced that the annual dollar limit for health flexible spending accounts is increasing from $2,500 to $2,550 for 2015. Flexible Spending does not automatically renew each year. If you want this benefit, you must elect or re-elect these benefits in 2015.

This year you will be allowed to rollover up to $500 of any unused 2014 Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) dollars. The unused money will automatically rollover into your 2015 HCRA and does not count toward your 2015 contribution ($2,550 maximum). The 2014 rollover funds will be available to you whether you elect an HCRA in 2015 or not—however you must be an active employee at Oakland University in order to receive the rollover funds. Any 2014 leftover funds exceeding $500 will be forfeited.

The rollover only applies to the Health Care Reimbursement Account—it does not apply to the Dependent Care Reimbursement Account.

Benefits Notes:
  • If you've elected Supplemental Life, your rate may change based on your age.
  • Oakland University is offering a new voluntary benefit in 2015 - InfoArmor Identity and Credit Protection. Check your benefits packet for more information, and look for the InfoArmor representative at the Benefits and Wellness Fair on November 5.

Test your financial know-how and you could win a mini tablet computer!

We've teamed up again with TIAA-CREF to bring you the What's Your Financial IQ Challenge in 2014. From November 3rd to December 3rd, our daily interactive quiz challenges your financial knowledge in a fun, thought-provoking way—covering a range of useful money-related topics from loans and investing to everyday savings, retirement and taxes. With retirement readiness and financial security being one of our key priorities as an employer – we encourage you to engage in the upcoming challenge.

Here's how it works. Each day 5 new questions are added to the Challenge. Every time you play, you are automatically entered for a chance to win one of three mini tablet computers. The more you play, the better your chances of winning – so sign on every day! All responses are confidential, see terms and conditions for full details.

Ready to test your financial savvy and learn something new each time you play? Take the challenge at wyfiq.org/q/Oakland/Quiz2. Good luck!
