No matter where you are on campus, you can probably see and hear our beautiful new Elliott Tower. It looms above us at 151 glorious feet high, and the 49 custom bells welcome us whenever we step outside.
Make sure you take a walk over to see the fountain, garden and landscaping! Breathtaking!
For more information on the Elliott Tower, including a timeline and some pretty interesting facts (the largest bell weighs 5,000 lbs!), please visit the Elliott Tower website

Flu vaccine is now available at GHC. The OU Priority Health HMO and BCBS covers the cost at GHC. The cost for those not using insurance is $20. Health Alliance Plan only pays for Urgent Care visits at GHC, it will not pay for vaccines. Blue Care Network does not cover the cost at GHC.
Why get a flu vaccine?
Ask the McCormick family of Rochester, Michigan (pdf). Even healthy, young adults can get the flu, and it can be very serious. This year and every year, get vaccinated against the flu. It could save a life.

Performance Management Update
During the month of October and November, employees and supervisors should meet to discuss progress they've made toward reaching the goals they set when the performance cycle began on April 1, 2014. Recall that a new version of the Total Employee and Management Source (TEAMS) System was implemented recently. As a result employees will not be able to enter comments on their progress toward goal attainment in the system. Employees may view their goals and provide comments to their supervisors via email or work together to determine the best way to share these comments. Follow this link to the TEAMS system
. Remember that bookmarks previously saved on your computer may not work. You may need to delete the old bookmark and re-save it once you arrive at the TEAMS site. Read more about SMART Goal Setting
For those who have not yet attended a training session on the new system, additional dates have been added to the training calendar. Those interested in attending should visit www.oakland.edu/uhr/training/
to sign up.
Those who have questions about this process should contact Gail Ryckman at ext. 3480 or email@example.com
, or Tracey Zang at ext. 3480 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Please welcome all of the new employees that have joined us in September, 2014!

|Receiving Feedback and Criticism|
We all need feedback so that we can learn and improve. Sometimes feedback is on target, and its usefulness is apparent. Other times it may not be as easy to receive. Being able to receive feedback and criticism appropriately without getting your emotions involved is an essential skill for success in the business world. People in an organization need to be able to receive corrective feedback effectively, whether from someone in authority, a direct report, or a peer. Doing so allows you to better understand your colleagues' concerns, calm potentially heated exchanges, and solve issues efficiently.
This course starts by exploring the reactions that typically occur when a person receives corrective feedback or criticism. You will also learn an approach that you can use to help you receive feedback in a productive manner and then have a chance to practice receiving feedback using that approach. Materials designed to support blended learning activities aligned with this course are available from the Resources Page.

Pets @ OU
Coca is a curious two year old pit bull mix. She tends to add a bit of drama to everything she does. She squeaks every time she yawns. You can see she is very proper and always sits with her paws crossed. She loves to dance, play in the yard, and hates being alone. Coca made her way to Anna Mrdeza in the First Year Advising Center from the Washington DC area where she was rescued. .
