Scholars and practitioners from across the globe gathered at Third International Credit Analysis and Risk Management Conference at Oakland University’s business school in late August.  An interactive learning experience, the two-day conference offered multiple perspectives including new and existing models and methods for credit risk management, credit analysis and relationship lending.

 

Led by Professor J. Austin Murphy, hosted by Oakland University’s Department of Accounting and Finance, the conference was sponsored by PNC Bank.

The third International Conference on Credit Analysis and Risk Management will take place August 21-22 on Oakland University’s campus. Presentations by business and academic experts will focus on credit analysis at the global level, along with new and existing models and methods for credit risk management, credit analysis and relationship lending.


New this year, financial professionals can also take part in a four-hour seminar and receive an Executive Certificate of Education in Credit Analysis. The Credit Analysis Seminar will run concurrently with the conference from 1-5 p.m., Friday, August 22. This section of the conference focuses on commercial, international and retail credit as well as credit derivatives Certificate registrants may attend both days of the conference.

Popular advice for entrepreneurs often equates success to money, but for Mark Simon, a researcher and professor teaching Oakland University students the skills of successful entrepreneurship, his research shows otherwise.

 

“We know for a fact that the major reason why an entrepreneur starts a venture is not to achieve greater economic success. While it is a reason, it is not the main reason,” says Simon, professor, management and entrepreneurship for OU’s School of Business Administration.

SAIFE Virtual Stock Competition starts Monday, Oct. 28

The Society for Applied Investing and Financial Education (SAIFE) is hosting a Virtual Stock Competition that will begin on Monday, October 28, 2013. Anyone can join the competition, and this is an excellent chance to learn more about investing without risking any real money.

Participants have the opportunity to invest with virtual money and win real money. Winners will also get free admission to SAIFE’s Annual Golf Outing in spring 2014, where they will be honored for their accomplishments.
